FedEx orders 2,000 Harbinger electric trucks in $300M deal
September 30, 2026
The deal shows an existing investor converting into a volume buyer, a signal that medium-duty electrification can pencil out without subsidies.
- FedEx placed a binding order for 2,000 all-electric medium-duty trucks from Harbinger in a deal valued at more than $300 million, with deliveries due by the end of 2027.
- Founded in 2022 by veterans of Anduril, Canoo and QuantumScape, Harbinger builds a single core product, an electric medium-duty truck chassis, and is already in production and generating revenue.
- The order expands on FedEx's role as co-lead investor in Harbinger's $160 million Series C in November 2025 and an initial 53-truck pilot order; FedEx SVP Paul Melander sits on Harbinger's board.
- Harbinger projects each truck saves about $20,000 a year in fuel versus diesel, totaling roughly $40 million annually and $800 million over a 20-year fleet life, while avoiding over 1.7 million tons of CO2.
- Beyond trucks, Harbinger has expanded into hybrid emergency vehicles, acquired an autonomous-driving company in February, sells its battery packs for energy storage, and is weighing an IPO.
- A $300M order from a customer that is also an investor and board member underscores a rare case where fleet electrification economics are driving real commercial scale, not just pilot programs.
