Private equity's move into device-level connectivity signals IoT infrastructure is maturing into a core industrial layer.
- Copenhagen-based Onomondo agreed to a combined investment exceeding €100 million, with London-based Aspirity Partners signing a definitive deal to acquire a majority stake and existing backer EIFO increasing its stake alongside it.
- Onomondo runs a software-defined IoT connectivity network with direct access to nearly 700 mobile networks across more than 100 countries, serving over 500 business customers including Maersk, Carlsberg and Husqvarna.
- The transaction requires regulatory approval and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027; it marks Aspirity Partners' first Nordic deal after closing its debut fund at more than €875 million in 2025.
- Onomondo's hybrid public/private network technology powers what it says is the world's largest private LTE network at sea, deployed across more than 450 Maersk vessels.
- EIFO, Denmark's sovereign investment fund, has backed Onomondo since 2021, following an earlier €20.2 million round led by Verdane in 2022.
- A private equity firm taking control of an IoT connectivity provider rather than a strategic acquirer underscores how device-level infrastructure is now viewed as a durable, cash-generating asset class akin to telecom or cloud.
