Supabase acquires Turso after $150M raise led by GIC
October 2, 2026
Pairing a relational database giant with a lightweight SQLite engine shows agent-era apps need millions of disposable databases, not fewer big ones.
- Supabase raised $150 million in growth funding led by GIC, with CapitalG, IronArc and SquarePeg participating, and separately agreed to acquire agentic database startup Turso on undisclosed terms.
- Supabase is an open-source Postgres backend platform used by more than 13 million developers for auth, storage, edge functions and vector search.
- Turso rebuilt SQLite in Rust so a single server can host millions of on-demand databases, loading them when needed and suspending idle ones instead of dedicating a machine to each.
- Turso's founders Glauber Costa and Pekka Enberg are joining Supabase, with Costa leading a new agentic infrastructure team while Turso keeps operating independently.
- Supabase says it now adds over 1 million users and 4 million databases a month, with roughly 70% of new databases created by agents or AI-driven tools.
- The new round lands just four months after Supabase's $500 million Series F, a fast repeat financing cycle driven by surging AI-agent usage.
- As coding agents multiply software output, backend providers are racing to support millions of small, disposable databases rather than scaling up a few large ones.
